Broadband Pricing NewsEclipse Internet launches range of new broadband services
Published 12 May 08 12:57
Eclipse Internet has launched a range of new broadband services which give customers the ability to optimise their broadband connection according to their individual online usage habits.
The services allow customers to determine the level of priority they want their broadband connection to assign to web browsing, email, peer-to-peer, FTP, VPN and gaming. This effectively gives users the best possible online experience for their needs.
How does this work? The technology Eclipse uses to manage traffic on its network allows it to optimise particular applications for particular users. The new services give customers access to the tools to let them do this for themselves, via the Eclipse Control Panel. The view from Eclipse is that customers know better than anyone else what they want from their broadband service, so why not let them control it?
The new services also feature enhanced connection and download speeds that are as fast as users' telephone lines will allow, and a range of inclusive usage limits that allow customers to pay for what they use.
How much faster are the new services than Eclipse's existing 'up to 8Mb' services? Because the new services allow Eclipse to predict bandwidth usage far more accurately than before and allocate a more generous amount per user based on their needs, the new services offer faster speeds than were previously achievable.
Eclipse anticipates that customers will achieve speeds much closer to the maximum that their telephone line will allow as a result.
Customers need to bear in mind that line speeds are ultimately the key factor determining broadband speed, so 8Mb has only ever been a theoretical maximum, rather than the typical experience a user should expect, but the new services will offer a significant improvement to many customers.
What are the benefits of inclusive monthly usage? The increasing popularity of services such as BBC’s iPlayer and the growing usage of peer-to-peer means that ISPs are facing spiralling bandwidth costs.
Eclipse believes the only way to ensure a great online experience for all of its customers is to charge according to bandwidth usage, which allows a generous and fixed amount of bandwidth to be allocated to each broadband user.
Eclipse's new services at a glance:
Home Lite includes 1 GB of monthly usage and is £9.95 for the first 3 months, thereafter £13.95 Home Select includes 10 GB of usage Home Pro offers a whopping 50 GB per month
